The following obituary was
printed in the NW Florida Daily News on Sunday, May 12,
2002:
Jessie Y. Aderholt born
June 22, 1916, beloved wife of Brig Gen (RET) Harry C.
"Heinie" Aderholt passed away peacefully Friday May 10 at
her home in Ft. Walton Beach Florida after a long and
courageous battle with cancer and related complications.
Born in New York City to Robert Daniel and Johnann Reid.
Jessie is survived by her daughter Janet and son-in-law
Richard Elliott, now serving as a Chaplain in the USAF at
Maxwell AFB, 4 grandchildren, and also her son George and
daughter-in-law Pat Aderholt.
Throughout her life Jessie exhibited an extraordinary zest
for life that inspired and encouraged all around her. She
boldly left home at a very early age to live in New York
City where she became a perforrner in the top rated George
White dancing troop. Thereafter she married Heinie and
became a pillar of their family and supported his long and
illustrious career in high positions. She was renowned for
her style and entertaining skills and elegantly hosted
senior foreign and American officials worldwide. Jessie's
adventuresome spirit led her to visit more than 50
countries. One of the disappointments of her last years was
that there was no place left to go. Jessie was especially
revered throughout the USAF Special Operations community
where she was exceptionally well known as the woman behind
her husband Heinie "Air Commando One". She will be greatly
missed by all.
At a later date a celebration of the life of Jessie will be
announced.
In lieu of flowers send donations to the McCoskrie Threshold
Foundation.
